ICCBS organised its biggest event during GEW 2016 at Incubation Center, Karachi University on 18 November.The event consisted of four-panel discussions aimed at boosting entrepreneurial and economic activity in Karachi. The panel discussions covered four diverse topics and to cover these topics different experts and renowned personalities from the business sector were invited to share their experiences and opinions with the audience. Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director ICBBS, gave the welcome speech which was followed by Professor Dr. Atta Ur Rehman, the Patron in Chief, ICCBS talking about “Knowledge Economy – The Way Forward”. He discussed how there is a dire need for economic development in Pakistan and that startups can play an integral role in fulfilling this need.
The topics of the panel discussions were "To invest or not to invest", "Youth Empowerment", "Women Power: Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurship", "Karachi: City of Opportunities" and "How to Scale up your startup?". The speakers for the first panel were Mr. Rizwan Khan, Founder Bizstructures; Mr. Arshad Ashraf, Founder, One Market Capital; Mr. Omar Bayat, Entrepreneur & Investor; and Mr. Hafiz Saqif, Director Global Deployment, Afiniti. In light of their diverse and vast experience, these professional weighted in on the advantages of investing.
The second panel was covered by Mr. Kanwal Masroor, Entrepreneur; Mr. Nasir Zaidi, Paradise Group of Educational Institutions; and Mr. Fahad Naseem Chairman, Stanmore Group of Institutions. These entrepreneurs motivated youngsters in the audience to think about starting their own businesses and to learn from the experiences shared with them today. They urged young entrepreneurs to never give up on their dreams.
The third panel consisted of Ms. Alveena Agha, Faculty Entrepreneurship- Kasbit; Ms. Shaheen Khan, Khanz Designs; and Ms. Farzana Khan, FPCCI, General Manager, Binary Vibes Pvt. Ltd. These professionals emphasized the important role women can play towards furthering economic activity and economic development of the country. They gave several examples of successful Pakistani female entrepreneurs to motivate them.
To discuss the fourth topic, Mr. Khawaja Bilal, Director, SRK Group of Industries; Mr. Faisal Bin Badar, Strategist, Entrepreneur, Consultant, Trainer, CEO, F.B.Badar Training & Consultancy; Mr. Shoaib Shamsi, Professor & Director Shamsi Builders; and Mr. Jawad Khan were present. The entrepreneurs highlighted the advantages of living in Karachi and the opportunities the city presented and had to offer in the future.
Mr. Junaid Mansoor, CEO, Tajmac Solutions; Mr. Sameer Shamsi, Panelist VP & Director, e-Creatorz (Pvt) Ltd; and Mr. Fahad Ahmed, EVP, PMI Karachi enthusiastically debated on the fifth topic. The last discussion addressed the issue of how to expand your business once its starts making a profit. This topic was of critical importance as many businesses stumble during the process of expansion or simply fail to see the advantages in expanding their entreprise.
