About Global Entrepreneurship Week United Kingdom
Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest campaign to promote entrepreneurship. Each year, it plays a critical role in encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs to consider starting up their own business.
From the 16th until the 22nd of November, Global Entrepreneurship Week inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors—introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.
In the last 5 years, in the UK, the GEW campaign has been hosted by Youth Business International, a global network dedicated to helping young entrepreneurs get started in business. This year, YBI joined forces with its members in the UK and is co-hosting the 2015 GEW campaign together with - StartUp Direct, UnLtd and Virgin Startup. Members of the YBI network across the world also host Global Entrepreneurship Week in further ten countries, giving the UK community even stronger links to the global entrepreneurship movement.
Last year in the UK over 500 partner organisations hosted around 2,500 events that reached more than 340,000 entrepreneurial people across the country.
Global Entrepreneurship Week started life in the UK, as Enterprise Week in 2008, and has since grown into a truly global campaign taking place simultaneously in around 150 countries—with 11,101 partner organizations planning 28,363 activities that directly engage millions of participants every year.
The beauty of this campaign is that is offers something for everyone, from the aspirational entrepreneur thinking of taking their first step towards running their own business, to established entrepreneurs looking to connect to venture capitalists or experts who can drive their business to the next level.
This year we are helping participants to Make it Happen!
For many people, the thought of starting up their own business is overwhelming, and many entrepreneurs don’t make it to the next stage because they don’t make the right connections. Our own research shows us that aspiring entrepreneurs and start-up entrepreneurs are eager to access practical support and networks through Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Global Entrepreneurship Week continues to attract and engage high-profile entrepreneurs who are enthusiastic to share their personal experiences and insights. Meanwhile, world leaders on each continent and local elected officials alike have embraced the campaign—through proclamations as well as participation—as they look to fuel the economic engine of high-growth startups in their own countries and communities.
But Global Entrepreneurship Week is more than just an awareness campaign supported by world leaders and celebrity entrepreneurs. It is about unleashing ideas and doing what it takes to bring them to life—spotting opportunities, taking risks, solving problems, being creative, building connections and learning from both failure and success. It is about thinking big and making your mark on the world—doing good while doing well at the same time.
